Jakarta, April 23, 2026 – PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk (“VKTR”), in collaboration with coachbuilder Laksana, continues to strengthen its commitment to advancing public transportation transformation through a series of electric bus trials for the development of the new Trans Semarang fleet. The program has been implemented in phases across several strategic corridors in Semarang and has received positive responses from a wide range of communities.
The trial program is conducted in three phases as part of a comprehensive approach to evaluate the operational readiness of various types of electric vehicles:
- Phase 1: Trial of a 12-meter single electric bus on Corridor 1 (Mangkang Terminal – Penggaron Terminal), from February 13 to March 10, 2026
- Phase 2: Trial of an 8-meter medium electric bus on Corridor 5 (PRPP – Meteseh), from March 12 to April 7, 2026
- Phase 3 (ongoing): Trial of a 6-meter electric feeder transporter bus on the UNDIP – UNNES route, from April 15 to April 28, 2026
Through this phased approach, VKTR not only evaluates the technical performance of the vehicles but also ensures alignment between fleet types, route characteristics, and urban mobility needs. During the trial period, the public is given the opportunity to directly experience electric buses that set a new standard for urban public transportation.
This initiative also highlights the capability of the domestic industry. The buses used in the trial are the result of local manufacturing collaboration in Central Java, with production carried out in Magelang and Ungaran, reflecting the readiness of Indonesia’s industrial ecosystem to support the transition to electrification.
Director and Chief Operational Officer of VKTR, V. Bimo Kurniatmoko, stated: “Through the adoption of mass electric vehicles, we are not only driving industrial independence but also expanding access to a healthier environment for the public. The impact extends beyond environmental benefits to economic value creation through job generation and the strengthening of local industrial ecosystems. We hope this initiative from Central Java can serve as a catalyst and expand to other regions across Indonesia.”
From a user experience perspective, the electric buses offer enhanced comfort through quieter operations and minimal vibration, creating a smoother and more enjoyable journey. This advantage serves as a key differentiator compared to conventional internal combustion engine buses.
Technical Director of Laksana, Stefan Arman, added “Laksana is committed to supporting the development of healthier and higher-quality transportation. Our collaboration with VKTR demonstrates the readiness of the local industry to deliver modern, safe, and relevant public transport solutions, while also proving the competitiveness of domestic industry in the electrification era.”
Public enthusiasm has been evident through strong participation during the trial period, ranging from workers and students to broader community groups eager to experience environmentally friendly transportation. This positive response indicates growing public acceptance of cleaner and more modern mobility solutions.
Bimo further emphasized: “This is not merely a trial, but a true reflection of Central Java pride—locally produced electric buses built on regional industrial capabilities and aligned with the President’s directive to strengthen the use of domestic products.”
This momentum is increasingly relevant amid global oil price volatility, which underscores the urgency of adopting more efficient and sustainable energy alternatives. The electrification of public transportation represents a strategic step toward reducing dependence on fossil fuels while strengthening national energy resilience.
Through this initiative, VKTR and its partners are not only delivering technological innovation but also making a tangible contribution to improving quality of life through a healthier, more comfortable, and sustainable transportation system.
