CNN Indonesia - Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), a sub-holding of PT Pertamina (Persero), has announced its strategic partnership with PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk (VKTR), a subsidiary of the Bakrie Group, to spearhead the sustainable mobility revolution in Indonesia.

This partnership, formalized through a Letter of Interest to the US International Development Finance Corporation, marks a significant milestone in the effort to achieve Indonesia's Net Zero emissions target by 2060.

The collaboration aligns with President Joko Widodo's directive to accelerate public transportation electrification, as stipulated in Presidential Regulation No. 55/2019 and Presidential Instruction No. 7/2022. The alliance focuses on decarbonizing public transportation in Indonesia, a critical step considering the high traffic density in cities like Jakarta.

With more than 260,000 buses in Indonesia, the partnership introduces the innovative e-MaaS (electric Mobility as a Service) model. This model not only includes the operation and maintenance of electric buses but also offers flexible financing, reducing reliance on government funding.

VKTR CEO, Gilarsi W. Setijono, stated that his company’s expertise in public transportation electrification and renewable energy uniquely positions them to lead transformative solutions in Indonesia.

"We are committed to facilitating comprehensive EV infrastructure, transitioning from a CAPEX to OPEX model, and making a significant contribution to Indonesia’s economy," he said in a written statement on Tuesday (14/11).

Dannif Danusaputro, CEO of Pertamina NRE, stated that the company is committed to achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060 or sooner.

"We are focusing on decarbonizing challenging sectors through low-carbon solutions, renewable energy development, and building future businesses that include electric vehicles, batteries, green hydrogen, and carbon. We believe this collaboration will accelerate our efforts," he said.

The partnership aims to assist entities like TransJakarta and the New Capital IKN in developing the necessary infrastructure for widespread EV adoption. The e-MaaS model goes beyond vehicles; it includes essential infrastructure such as charging stations and renewable energy sources, providing holistic and cost-efficient solutions for major cities in Indonesia.

This collaborative effort through e-MaaS is ready to be implemented across various sectors, driving eco-friendly transportation projects and electrification transformation. Its scalability also paves the way for expansion into other regions, fostering a strong and sustainable eco-friendly transportation ecosystem.

Vice President Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero), Fadjar Djoko Santoso, added that this collaboration realizes one of Pertamina's sustainability initiatives: building an EV ecosystem in Indonesia.

"We hope this partnership can drive the growth of renewable energy in the automotive industry, especially public transportation, so vehicle emissions can be significantly reduced," he concluded.

The Pertamina NRE and VKTR alliance represents an important step in decarbonizing transportation in Indonesia. This partnership will transform the face of public transportation and deliver positive impacts for the environment, the economy, and Indonesian society.
