Media Indonesia – As part of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance operational efficiency, PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk (“VKTR”) together with PT Gapura Angkasa officially announced the deployment of an Electric Apron Passenger Bus and its charger at Soekarno-Hatta Airport – Cengkareng, on Monday (April 8).
This innovative initiative is not only about adopting advanced technology but also about demonstrating the strong commitment of both companies to sustainable practices and environmentally friendly mobility. PT Gapura Angkasa is a company engaged in aviation support services, providing ground handling, cargo handling, and other related services to airlines operating in Indonesia.
VKTR, as a pioneer in the electrification of commercial vehicles in Indonesia, has been selected by Gapura Angkasa, a leading ground handling service provider, to introduce efficient and environmentally friendly transportation solutions. This collaboration marks a significant step in Indonesia’s adoption of electric vehicles for airport operations, supporting the national ambition to achieve Net Zero Emission by 2060.
Under this agreement, PT Gapura Angkasa has appointed VKTR to supply one (1) Electric Apron Passenger Bus along with its charger to operate at Soekarno-Hatta Airport – Cengkareng. With VKTR providing 60 electric buses from June 2022 to April 2024, this initiative has saved 1.8 million liters of diesel fuel, equivalent to a reduction of more than 5 million kilograms of CO₂ emissions.
This initiative represents a concrete step toward significantly reducing the carbon footprint—an approach that can be adopted by Soekarno-Hatta Airport and other airports across Indonesia as a real example of the positive impact of transportation electrification on the environment. In addition, the increased use of eco-friendly vehicles reflects PT Gapura Angkasa’s commitment to sustainable practices in delivering ground handling services.
"We are proud to be part of this positive change. Working with Gapura Angkasa not only demonstrates confidence in our technology but also our shared vision for a greener and more sustainable future of transportation," said Gilarsi W. Setijono, CEO of VKTR, in an official statement on Tuesday (April 9).
Indonesia’s Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, also reiterated the government’s commitment to raising the unconditional emission reduction target from 29% to 31.89% and the conditional target from 41% to 43.20%. These targets have been outlined in the Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (ENDC) document.
This agreement underscores the commitment of VKTR and PT Gapura Angkasa in supporting the transition toward more eco-friendly and efficient mobility. It also enhances the airport’s reputation as an environmentally conscious hub and ensures compliance with stricter environmental regulations. Investment in efficient chargers further guarantees reliable availability for electric vehicle charging, ensuring smooth airport operations.
